About Update in Anaesthesia
Update in Anaesthesia is the official education journal of the WFSA. First published in 1992, the aim of this journal has always been to provide clear, concise and clinically-relevant overview articles for anaesthetists working with limited resources around the world. A particular emphasis has been to provide ongoing learning and support for anaesthetists practising in countries where facilities for clinical practice and educational development are scarce.
The printed version of Update is sent free-of-charge to over 3000 English-speaking anaesthetists and is also translated into Russian, Mandarin, Spanish and French. Update has always been available via the internet for free download, both as full editions and as individual articles and we hope that the availability of this resource will be broadened further with the development of this section of the WFSA website.
The editorial board are committed to producing a first class peer-reviewed journal, and from edition 24,1 Update’scontents has been expanded to include original contributions in the form of brief reports of clinical studies, audits and case reports. ‘From the journals’ aims to keep readers informed of important and relevant publications from other journals, and ‘Cerebral challenge’ contains examples of abnormal Xrays, CT scans and ECGs for interpretation by our readers.
We are dependent on the generosity of the WFSA Publications committee budget to fund our work and on the unpaid volunteers who give up their time to help produce the journal. I would be delighted to be contacted by new authors and encourage those who are interested to look at the Guide to contributors (below). We hope that you enjoy the journal, and that you accept the challenge of continuing to strive to develop the standards of anaesthesia internationally. This will improve outcomes for our patients and consequently the standing of our profession.
